HOW TO MEASURE
FOR THE PERFECT FIT

Five minutes with a tape measure saves you a return. Pick your category below and follow the steps — works for any boat, jet ski, outboard or caravan.

THE 3 GOLDEN RULES

  • Measure in metres or feet — pick one and stick with it. Don't mix.
  • If you're between sizes, ALWAYS go UP. A slightly loose cover beats one that won't close.
  • Measure twice, write it down. Then send us a photo of your setup if you're unsure — we'll confirm before you order.
Step 1

BOAT COVERS

Measure your boat from the tip of the bow to the centre of the transom (back). Always measure the hull length only — not the trailer, swim platform, anchor bracket or outboard.

You'll need

  • Tape measure (10m+)
  • A friend to hold the tape
  • Pen & paper

Measure these points

  1. 1
    Centre-line length (A)
Run the tape along the top centre of the boat from the tip of the bow to the centre of the transom. Keep it taut and level.
  2. 2
    Maximum beam (B)
Measure the widest point of the boat, usually across the middle of the cockpit, gunwale to gunwale.
  3. 3
    Windshield height (C)
From the deck up to the highest point of the windshield, bow rail or T-top.
  4. 4
    Hull type
Note whether you have a runabout, centre console, bowrider, cuddy cabin, walkaround or tinnie — fit varies by style.
Pro Tips
  • Do NOT include outboard motor or bow pulpit length — those use separate covers.
  • If your measurement falls between sizes, ALWAYS go up one size.
  • Allow extra length for a bow rail or pulpit (add ~30cm).

Step 2

JET SKI / PWC COVERS

Jet ski covers are sold by make, model and year. Measuring is a backup check — start with your model number on the rear plate or registration papers.

You'll need

  • Tape measure (5m)
  • Model/year of your PWC

Measure these points

  1. 1
    Overall length (A)
From the tip of the nose to the back of the rear platform. Do not include the tow eye.
  2. 2
    Width at footwells (B)
Widest point of the hull, usually across the rear footwell area.
  3. 3
    Height with handlebars (C)
From the bottom of the hull (rub rail) to the top of the handlebars.
  4. 4
    Seat configuration
Count seats (1, 2 or 3-up) — stand-up skis use a different cover pattern entirely.
Pro Tips
  • Most PWC covers are model-specific — check Sea-Doo, Yamaha WaveRunner or Kawasaki Jet Ski model code first.
  • Trailerable covers have integrated tie-downs — confirm before towing.
  • Storage-only covers are lighter and cheaper but not rated for highway speeds.

Step 3

OUTBOARD MOTOR COVERS

Outboard covers come in two styles: Full cover (covers the entire leg + cowl) and Half / Vented cover (cowl only, for use while running or trailering).

You'll need

  • Tape measure (3m)
  • Motor make, model & HP

Measure these points

  1. 1
    Cowl length (A)
From the front of the cowl to the rear, along the top.
  2. 2
    Cowl width (B)
Widest point of the cowl, side to side.
  3. 3
    Cowl height (C)
From the bottom of the cowl (where it meets the midsection) to the top.
  4. 4
Leg length (D) — full covers only
Distance from the bottom of the cowl down to the cavitation plate above the prop. Common sizes: 15" (Short), 20" (Long), 25" (X-Long), 30" (XX-Long).
  5. 5
    Number of cylinders & HP
e.g. Yamaha F150D 4CYL 2.8L 2023>. This is the fastest way to find your exact fit.
Pro Tips
  • Engine make + model + year is more reliable than measurements — use it first.
  • Half covers are designed to stay on while the engine is running.
  • Don't try to fit a 4-stroke cover to a 2-stroke (or vice versa) — cowls are completely different shapes.

Step 4

CARAVAN COVERS

Caravan covers are sized by body length only — that's the length of the van itself, not including the A-frame/drawbar or rear bumper bar.

You'll need

  • Tape measure (10m+)
  • Step ladder (for height check)
  • A helper

Measure these points

  1. 1
    Body length (A)
From the FRONT of the caravan body (where it meets the A-frame) to the very BACK of the body. Do NOT include the drawbar or spare wheel.
  2. 2
    Overall width (B)
Widest point of the van, side to side, including any flares but excluding awnings and pulled-in steps.
  3. 3
    Overall height (C)
From ground to the highest point — usually the air conditioner, antenna or roof hatch.
  4. 4
    Features to note
Pop-top, rooftop A/C, solar panels, awning, sloped front — these all affect cover style and seam placement.
Pro Tips
  • Roll back awnings, fold steps in and lower the antenna before measuring.
  • Cover lengths are listed as ranges (e.g. 18'–20' / 5.5–6.1m). If you're between ranges, go UP.
  • Pop-top vans need a pop-top-specific cover with extra room at the top seam.
